Every parent is an important part of the Little Athletics community, and Volunteers are a major part of little athletics running smoothly and on time.
Little Athletics is a voluntary organisation, centres cannot operate without the assistance of parents each week in fulfilling the many and varied duties required.
These include officiating at an event; managing an age group; recording results; working in the canteen; to name just a few. Additional assistance is always required on the Centre committees and all parents are encouraged to become involved.
Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents can become fully involved in their child’s sporting interests. We understand that just like our athletes, our parents come from a diverse range of backgrounds and as such have different talents and experiences.
Without parent support and help, it is impossible for our club to run successfully and for your children to engage in the sport fully.
The Committee wishes to stress the importance of parents becoming involved in their children’s sports.
Please don’t wait to be asked – come forward and offer your assistance to help keep the Centre running effectively!
Volunteers are also able to apply for a Blue Card for working with children – it’s free!
Below is how you can help out each week !
Parents are asked to help with the canteen. This is too big of a job to do with one person. We really need at least 3 people each run night to assist in the smooth running of the Canteen.
This is a major fundraiser for our Club and the more we can feed our families, the better. Everyone loves being able to grab a great feed before they head home, and even during the races !!
Many hands make light work, so please head over and offer your help. It is greatly appreciated !
Setting up the equipment requires at least 6 sets of hands. Parents need to arrive early (around 5.00pm) to help put out high jump mats, recording tables, time keepers stand etc.
All parents should help to put the equipment away as each event finishes. Having the equipment out on time ensures that our competition begins on time.
As all children benefit from this, it is unfair to expect the same parents to set up and pack up every week, so please lend a hand.
We need at least 2 people to help identify each athlete and their number as they cross the line.
Our Recording Officer needs always needs a Recording Assistant and a couple more people to help at the finish line.
If you are happy to provide a good eye and good cheer for the athletes at the end, then we'd love to see you at the Recording Tent to lend a hand.
All field events require a minimum of 3 people to run the event, a recorder, and 2 helpers to spike and validate a measure for each performance.
We understand that many parents may not have been involved in Little Athletics before, but don’t worry; we've got great training resources on our website to teach you!
We all started out as new parents not knowing what to do or what advice to give, so we are here also to help.
Racewalking is fast becoming a popular sport.
This event requires at least 4 'Judge Helpers' placed around the track at differing intervals to run effectively.
Failure to get sufficient helpers will result in no track records being made and no championship points being allocated except for 1 point for competing.
So please, whenever a racewalk is run, please offer to help out!
The Age Group manager / Coordinator always needs assistance from other parents in measuring, recording, raking and general group control.
Parents run the sport for children and while you do not have to be a qualified official to help out, Glass House Little Athletics encourages parents to become Officials.
An official runs an event which means learning the rules.
Official qualifications can be earned to very high levels, but the Level 1 Official level is suitable for Little Athletics Centres. If you are interested in becoming an Official, please speak to our Committee Members.
Do you have a good eye at the finishing line ?
Our Chief Recording Officer needs always needs 2 x Recording Assistants and a couple more people to help at the finish line each Friday night.
If you are happy to provide a good eye and good cheer along for the athletes at the end, then we'd love to see you at the Recording Tent to lend a hand !
Committee Members are a group of dedicated Volunteers whose aim is to provide smooth and efficient running of the Club.
This Commitment is a meeting 1 x month, at Skippy Park, usually on a Wednesday evening.
A role on the Committee is there to help strengthen the running of the Club, so that all Athletes and their families can enjoy all that Glass House District Little Athletics has to offer.
